Jamie Oliver’s Thoughts: Bilston Town 3-2 Gornal Athletic

An interesting game against Bilston Town, not the result we wanted today and maybe deserved something from the game but another step in the right direction.

We were slow to start first 15 minutes and sometimes you can get away with it but Bilston punished us by applying the early pressure and the taking of chances and it only looked like the game was going one way early on.

We started to then come into the game and with Luke Sidaway heading home from close range gave us that little bit of hope going in at halftime.

Halftime was simply telling the lads we need a 90 minute performance in the second half and look to get more positives than negatives because it was the other way around first half.

Second half we started to match them and created more chances, Bilston went down to 10 men with a harsh sin bin for Ben Priest, we made changes and we got the equaliser which finally I think brought the derby day feel to the game.

We eventually looked like we might nick the winner but for a strange decision when the ref over ruled the lino and gave a corner which Bilston capitalised on to take the 3 points.

We could sit here and say that was the reason we didn’t get something but firstly we need to look at ourselves, yes we eventually matched them and showed signs of improvements and got the chances in the game with Luke Sidaway hitting post and Nathan Guest hitting the bar late on.

But 3 games in and 1 training session these boys are learning and adapting well to a new style of play and new additions to the squad learning each others game and I see us moving in the right direction.

Was great to get Nathan Guest, Chad Carter and Nathan Jones on the pitch coming back from injuries.

Thank you to Bilston Town for getting game on today and we wish you all the best in your push for play offs, another club doing good things behind the scenes with the first team, u21’s and u18’s well done to all involved.

Thank you to the Gornal support today, us and the lads really appreciate it.
