JAMIE OLIVER’S THOUGHTS: CRADLEY TOWN 4-2 GORNAL ATHLETIC

Was always going to be a tough game against play off placed Cradley Town who have lost just 4 in the last 20 games so we knew we had to be organised and disciplined throughout.

We set up a game plan to frustrate Cradley Town and said play the game 15 minutes at a time and stay in the game as I knew Cradley wouldn’t wait until last 10 to change.

I was proud of the lads the way they executed the game plan to near perfection soaking up pressure early on and being organised off the ball cutting out passing lanes so they found it hard to play through us, offensively we looked dangerous from set pieces which has not been the case for a long time and once again Harry Higginson grabs a goal to put us in front.

On the stroke of half time Cradley equalised with possibly our first lapse in concentration, but at half time the plan was the same stay in the game and frustrate even more.

Cradley took the lead in the second half on the 53rd minute and for us it was about our mentality as 2 had become 3 last week so soon after.

It took just 5 minutes to make it all square from another set piece and converted by Luke Sidaway to make the last 30 minutes interesting.

Last 10 minutes it was on us to make a decision to either stick it out with formation and personnel or make a change and get legs around Luke Sidaway, we chose that change was being made after Cradley set piece but the resulting set piece Cradley found themselves infront.

In stoppage time Cradley got the 4th in the 94th minute as we pushed more bodies forward.

Disappointing to lose 4-2 but can’t fault the lads performance and energy levels they showed throughout the game.

The squad will now look a lot stronger for next Saturdays home game versus Ingles with Brad Welding suspension served now and a couple more new signings incoming this week.

Thank you to the fans yesterday for turning up in numbers and we hope to see you all next Saturday.
