Jamie Oliver’s Thoughts: Gornal Athletic 2-2 Ingles

Yesterday’s draw against Ingles was definitely a game of two halves, first half we started brightly and had a couple of chances to take the lead before Ingles took the lead.

A free kick from Ingles on half way line was put into the box and wasn’t dealt with and we were punished after the Ingles player managed to keep the ball from going out and putting it across the face of goal for ingles to convert.

From the opening goal I felt we started to get back into bad habits of everything going long, on 20 minutes we lost Luke Sidaway to a injury and he was replaced by Charlie Oliver, still we didn’t get the ball down and play which suited Ingles winning every long ball.

We managed to get the equaliser from a long throw and Chad Carter capitalised on and comfortably slotted past the keeper on the stroke of half time.

At half time it was evident we needed to get the ball down and bring the ball players in the team into the game a lot more.

Second half was a massive improvement on first half which let’s be honest wasn’t hard, we started to see more of the ball in the Ingles half and got rewarded when Ryan Piggott got into the box and was brought down for a penalty, Brad Welding stepped up and out it away with a great finish.

With 7-8 minutes left we put ourselves in a great position but only two minutes later another free kick put in the box and a foul in the box resulted in the ref awarding another penalty which ingles put away to make the game finish 2-2.

Disappointed not to hold out for the 3 points but on the overall reflection of the 90 minutes I’d say a draw was probably a fair result and it’s a point for us to build on and keep moving forward as a group.

We now get ready for our away trip to face Chelmsley Town next Saturday in what has all the makings of being a great game.

Once again thank you to all the Gornal supporters yesterday it’s really appreciated and we hope to see you all again next week.
